Features & Specifications

At only 15 inches in width, the Danby DWC1534BLS is a slim wine cooler that is designed to easily replace the real estate occupied by your old trash compactor.  This is a single-zone unit that has a rated capacity of up to 34 standard (750 ml.) bottles of wine.  The design of this wine fridge is very modern and clean, and with a tempered glass front adorned by a nice stainless steel door frame and handle that looks good and provides extra durability.

The Danby DWC1534BLS is a compressor-driven model, which means that it has more cooling power to deal with hotter rooms than a typical thermoelectric wine fridge.  Specifically, this cooler can hold wine at temperatures ranging from 39 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit, therefore easily reaching ideal serving temperatures for warmer-loving reds and cooling down your favorite sparkling wines.

In addition to a modern look, this unit employs a modern electronic thermostat, complete with an eye-catching LED display.  Also attractive and functional is the blue LED interior light, that puts your collection on display yet does away with the heat of incandescents or the unwanted UV generated by florescents.  A nice contrast to the modern design, however, is this unit’s wooden shelving, bordered by matching stainless steel trim.

Thanks to its front-ventilating design, this wine cooler can be used as a built in or free-standing unit.  It measures 24.8 inches deep, 15 inches wide and 34.2 inches high.

Reviews & Ratings

The Danby DWC1534BLS currently has an average satisfaction rating of 4.5 out of 5.0 stars on amazon.com; however, this is based on only two reviews to date.  Both reviewers were impressed with this model, with one user summing it up as follows:

5stars“Better than expected in quiet and looks. Fit into a small space without looking cheap. It holds more than we expected.”

The other reviewer appeared to deduct one star because the shelving looked “crooked from afar” and that it didn’t hold more “larger” wine bottles.  As, we’ve mentioned before, just about every capacity rating for wine coolers assumes standard-sized (750 ml.) bottles.  Therefore, if you want to hold larger/odd-shaped bottles, you always need to discount the stated capacity.

Price and Value

At the time of this writing, this wine cooler is selling for just over $700.  While you may be able find a less expensive 34-bottle cooler, we think this is a very good price, especially given this models styling, design features, powerful compressor, and compact size.

Concluding Thoughts

If you want a small/compact wine cooler/cellar that can hold up to 34-standard sized bottles, looks good, is relatively inexpensive, and has the cooling power to combat fluctuating environmental temperatures, we think the Danby DWC1534BLS is a fantastic option.  Moreover, if you don’t want to install it under the counter, you can also use it as free-standing unit, as its slim design and front-ventilation allows it to fit in the smallest spaces.  All-in-all, we think it’s hard to go wrong with this one.
